Dr. Amy Zhang joins the Fairbank Center as a 2016-17 An Wang Postdoctoral Fellow, where she will be working closely with Professor Karen Thornber.

Professor Thornber and Dr. Zhang will focus their research on the environmental humanities, one of the Fairbank Center’s strategic priorities for our 60th Anniversary, as part of the Harvard Global Institute Environmental Humanities Initiative.

Amy is an environmental and urban anthropologist with an interest in science and technology studies working in contemporary China. Her research focuses primarily on two themes: environmental and material culture, and the development of urban infrastructure and politics.

At the Center, Amy will develop her book manuscript from her dissertation, which explores the politics and form of sustainable urban development, and public engagement with science and technology in China. Her project draws from debates in anthropology, environmental studies and science and technology studies.
