Xiaoxuan Wang is a 2nd year GSA. With his dissertation “Saving Deities for the Communities: Religion and Reconfiguration of Rural Order in Southern Zhejiang, 1949-2000,” Xiaoxuan aims to examine the restructuring of social order in rural China during the PRC through the analysis of the trajectories of different religious traditions and the various ways they reinvented themselves. He conducted research in Ruian, Pingyang and Yueqing counties in Zhejiang province. His faculty advisor is Professor Michael Szonyi.
