Audrye Wong’s new book\, Subversion and Seduction: China’s Economic Statecraft\, explores an underemphasized aspect of China’s economic influence: positive inducements. Through six case studies\, extensive field research\, and a survey experiment\, Dr. Wong’s book explores what kinds of inducement strategies succeed at achieving Beijing’s foreign policy goals and under what conditions. \n\n\n\nUnderstanding the mechanisms\, successes\, and limitations of China’s economic statecraft will be critical for leaders in the United States and abroad as they navigate a world where China increasingly wields its economic clout for geopolitical influence. Join Professor Rana Mitter and Dr. Audrye Wong for a discussion on this essential new book. \n\n\n\nAudrye Wong is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute\, where her work focuses on China’s foreign policy\, economic statecraft\, propaganda and disinformation campaigns\, and foreign influence operations. Previously\, Dr. Wong was a professor at the University of Southern California and postdoctoral fellow at the Grand Strategy\, Security\, and Statecraft joint program of the Harvard Kennedy School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Security Studies Program.
