Malcolm Thompson received his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in Modern Chinese History. His current research focuses on the “population problem” in its connection to issues of economic development in the twentieth century, late imperial Chinese statecraft, and the emergence, development, and transformation of historical systems of governing as a social practice.
