Around 5,000-10,000 individuals from post-Soviet Eurasia traveled to Syria and Iraq to join ISIS and other armed groups fighting there between 2012 and 2019. Now, some of them are repatriated to their home countries, while many remain in prisons and detention camps in the Middle East. What will happen to ISIS affiliates returning to Central Asia? Will they be prosecuted or released once repatriated? And how can governments ensure their integration in the civilian society back home? The roundtable will address these questions and offer policy recommendations.
