Taiwan Studies Workshop – Elections in Taiwan 2024

On January 13, 2024, elections will be held in Taiwan. This panel is the first of three planned sessions for the Taiwan Studies Workshop on this important topic, culminating in a post-election session held in Taiwan. The event featured Richard C. Bush, Nonresident Senior Fellow, Center for East Asia Policy Studies (CEAP), Brookings Institution; Jia Qingguo, Director and Professor, Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding, Peking University; Wei-Ting Yen, Assistant Professor of Government, Government Department, Franklin and Marshall College; and moderator Steven M. Goldstein, Director, Taiwan Studies Workshop, Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies. Participants discussed the expectations in Taipei, Beijing, and Washington for the possible outcomes and impact of these elections on the political environment in Taiwan and on the security situation in the region.
