Hue-Tam Ho Tai (谭可泰) is Kenneth T. Young Professor of Sino-Vietnamese History, Emerita at Harvard University. Focusing on the social and cultural history of modern Vietnam, she is the author of Passion, Betrayal, and Revolution in Colonial Saigon: The Memoirs of Bao Luong (Berkeley: University of California Press, 2010), Radicalism and the Origins of the Vietnamese Revolution (Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1992), and Millenarianism and Peasant Politics in Vietnam (Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1983), and is the editor of The Country of Memory: Remaking the Past in Late Socialist Vietnam (Berkeley: University of California Press, 2001) and co-editor of State, Society and the Market in Contemporary Vietnam: Property, Power and Values (New York: Routledge, 2012).

Research interests: public memory and public history; the famine of 1945 in northern Vietnam as experience and memory; telling lives: biography and autobiography; Vietnamese intellectual and revolutionary history.
