Shane Lin is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Political Science at Academia Sinica (Taiwan). His project, “Out-party Cues and American Threat Perceptions of China,” explores why the threat of China has become a near-consensus among Democrats and Republicans in a highly polarized society. His past research at the Fairbank Center as a 2021-2022 Hou Family Fellow in Taiwan Studies explored the influence of social media on public opinion about foreign policy, with a focus on the United States and Taiwan. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Politics from the University of Virginia in 2022. 

Research Interests: Cross-Strait Relations, U.S.-Taiwan-China relations, International Security, Public Opinion, Social Media, U.S. Foreign Policy, Chinese Foreign Policy, and Survey Experiments
