Mario Filippo Pini, born in 1940, after his BA in Italy, he got an MA in Regional Studies, East Asia, from Harvard in 1969. He entered the Italian Diplomatic Service one year later, and during a career that lasted 36 years he served in three posting in the People’s Republic of China, headed the Italian Representative Office in Taipei and was Ambassador of Italy in Bangladesh. Mainly interested in the historical experience of Italy in China, he has published essays on Sino-Italian relations, Italia e Cina, 60 anni tra passato e futuro (Italy and China, 60 Years Between the Past and the Future) (2011) and Things that a Diplomat in China Should Not Have Seen (2023).
Research interests: historical experience of Italy in China; relations between Italy and the PRC in the broader context of Euro-Chinese relations
