Peter Humphrey

Bio

Peter Humphrey holds a first-class honours degree in Chinese studies from Durham University, England, and has been an honorary professor in business risk management at the China University of Politics and Law in Beijing and at the EMBA program at Fudan University in Shanghai. He has been involved with China for 49 years, as a teacher, scholar, journalist and businessman who helped pioneer China’s business risk management field and was dean of the due diligence community there for ten years while heading his own company, ChinaWhys.

Peter is engaged in research on the imprisonment of foreigners in China with the aim of publishing a book on the subject based on a growing number of case studies that he has collected and his own research. He has written a personal memoir of his own widely-publicized experience as a wrongfully imprisoned foreigner in Shanghai from 2013 to 2015. In addition to his research interests, he acts as a pro bono mentor to families of the arbitrarily imprisoned.

Research Interests: Research interests: Chinese justice and imprisonment processes and human rights; China fraud and corruption, its roots, history and impact on contemporary Chinese society, and methodologies for businesses to combat it.
