Bio

Shijung Kim is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Comparative Literature at Harvard University. Her dissertation project, “Becoming China: A Sinography of Twentieth-Century French Letters,” focuses on moments of significant change in meanings of Chineseness, mostly in the sphere of French literature during the eponymous time frame. Her research seeks to explore the ethics of transcultural encounters and evaluate their relevance to contemporary Franco-Chinese geopolitical dynamics.  

Research interests: Franco-Chinese and Korean-Chinese encounters in twentieth-century arts and letters, Politics of aesthetics.
