Bio
Yingzeng Yu grew up in Beijing, had her university education in California and holds an MBA from UCLA. She has worked in the US, Hong Kong and mainland China in accounting and spent ten years as a fraud prevention consultant for multinationals with China business operations.
She is currently engaged in research around her parents’ unpublished memoirs and the history of Peking University, where her father spent sixty years, to build a book showing how modern Chinese intellectuals evolved from the ashes of tradition, how they embraced academic freedom in the early Republic of China and managed to establish world class universities. She hopes to contribute to the debates on patriotism, democracy, and the rule of law from a historical perspective.
Research Interests: Chinese history and the impact of cultural and political legacy on China’s modernization
