Bio

Zimeng Pan is Professor in the Department of International Studies and Director of the Research Center for Discourse and Society at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. She focuses on discourse studies in sociopolitical and sociocultural contexts and leads the National Social Science Fund of China. Her research examines China’s national image constructed through media discourse and explores the Chinese government and public discourses on patriotism and cultural confidence. Her current project is titled, “Reconceptualizing patriotism: How Chinese professionals negotiate between socioeconomic roles and patriotic rules under China’s new Patriotic Education Law.” Her other published books include: Construction of Chinese Discourse as seen in China’s Mainstream English-language Media (Beijing: People’s Publishing House, 2023) and New Directions for Education in China, co-edited (London: Institute of Education Press, 2014). She received her Ph.D. at University College London and MSc at Oxford University.
