Bio
Saul Wilson is Assistant Professor of Political Science and Chinese Studies at Ashoka University. He studies urban politics in contemporary China. His current work focuses on the evolution of China’s urban development model since the beginning of Reform and Opening, seeking to explain how China’s political economy came to revolve around real estate development. He has also written about the politics of urbanizing villagers, both on the urban fringe and in the countryside, and about personnel politics in reform era China. He helps organize the Fairbank Center’s Urban China Series.
Research Interests: Municipal politics in China; Urban Planning; and Urban Development in China.
