On Political Thought in China

October 7 @ 3:00 pm – 4:15 pm

Speaker: Daniel Bell, Chair Professor of Political Theory at the University of Hong Kong
Moderator: Rana Mitter, S.T. Lee Professor of U.S.-Asia Relations, Harvard Kennedy School

Join us for an afternoon with Professor Daniel Bell, Chair Professor of Political Theory at the University of Hong Kong and an expert on Chinese political thought, to discuss how ancient ideas still shape decisions in Beijing today. Professor Bell will explain how the debates of China’s great rival thinkers, from Confucius to Mozi, continue to root China’s political thinking, and how their logic factors into Chinese leaders’ calculations on the most consequential decisions they face, including a potential move on Taiwan.

Don’t miss the chance to understand the deep philosophical roots behind China’s present-day politics!

This event is part of the newly launched Thinking About China: A Belfer Center Conversation Series.
