Financing China’s Strategic Ambitions

November 18 @ 12:00 pm – 1:15 pm

Speakers:
Zoe Liu
, Maurice R. Greenberg Senior Fellow for China Studies, Council on Foreign Relations
Rana Mitter, S.T. Lee Professor of U.S.-Asia Relations, Harvard Kennedy School

Join us on for a lunchtime discussion with Maurice R. Greenberg Senior Fellow for China Studies Zongyuan Zoe Liu on China’s efforts to direct finance toward strategic industries and support its ambition for greater technological self-reliance. The conversation will consider how these changes could affect the renminbi’s role internationally and shape the broader rivalry between the United States and China.

We’ll explore questions such as: What is changing in China’s financial system? How could a more internationally active renminbi alter the global financial landscape? And what might Beijing’s financial and technology priorities mean for the future of U.S.– China relations?
