Benjamin Gallant (顧覺民) is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations. Gallant’s dissertation explores the competing political traditions that challenged the Qin model during the Warring States period and examines the continued importance of social ties, gift-giving, legal interpretation, and the “feudal” (封建) political order that existed in the state of Chu.
