Bio
Shiuon Chu (徐兆安) is an associate research fellow at Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. A historian of late imperial and modern China, Chu is particularly interested in the long history of Chinese examination. His first book, Reinventing Examination in Twentieth Century China and Taiwan, will be published by Harvard University Asia Center in spring 2025. The book traces the innovative uses of examination as an institution of government service and education after the 1905 abolition of the imperial examination system (keju 科举). Chu is currently working on his second book project on the institutional resiliency of late imperial keju.
