For the Spring 2025 semester, the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies is pleased to welcome three new Visiting Scholars who are working on issues related to contemporary China. They will join our Fall 2024 class of five Visiting Scholars and five Visiting Fellows of Practice.
New Visiting Scholars Spring 2025

Alex Long Chen (陈龙) is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Social Policy and Development Studies at China Agricultural University. His research focuses on China’s digital economy and platform work, organization and management, the meaning of work among contemporary Chinese youths, and work skill.

Rui Guo (郭锐) was a law professor at Renmin University of China. He received his legal training at Harvard Law School (LL.M., S.J.D.) and China University of Political Science and Law (LL.B., LL.M.), and his research focuses on the intersection of law, AI, corporations, and human rights. At the Fairbank Center, Dr. Guo will be continuing his research and working on expanding the Critical Issues Confronting China lectures to include additional content and Chinese translation.

Shih-Diing Liu (刘世鼎) is Professor of Communication and a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies, University of Macau. His broad research interests include the emotional dynamics of politics, the formation of popular identity, the expressive and embodied forms of political practices, and the psychology of nationalism. His current research explores the intersection of affect and gender in contemporary China.
